There is a great ALA article that discusses CSS-based dropdown menus. It shows how to create "smart little menus that do the “DHTML” dropdown dance without sacrificing semantics, accessibility, or standards compliance".
Since, the authors have written another article: Son of Suckerfish Dropdowns.
I found this solution amazing. I was impressed with the clean structural markup and the lightweight script. Unfortunately, as with many other CSS "tricks", this technique appeared to me pretty much "experimental" since it was not supported by NN6 or MSIE5 Mac.
I became interested in figuring out a way to make CSS drop down menus more browser friendly. I thought I could try to tackle the "cross-browsers" challenge the same way I did with the "Sliding Door of CSS".
And I did come up with a different solution...
